Everyone is familiar with the age old adage, Location, Location, Location. There is no denying the importance of location in Real Estate. But Location, Location, Design is more important and should replace it.
In markets with ever increasing competition or simply looking for a better place to Live, Work, or Play: you need an edge, good design.
DESIGN IDENTITY - The sense of place
The oldest standing and arguably the oldest meaningful structures on earth are only about 5,000 years old. This represents two to five percent of humankind's total existence!
People are innately more in touch with the Earth than buildings. I think, What is special about those old buildings is the spirit of place, genius loci with Wabi-sabi, the Japanese art of finding beauty in imperfection and profundity in nature, of accepting the natural cycle of growth, decay, and death. . . and it reveres authenticity above all.
This is accomplished in any style, but the style must be true to it self.
DESIGN INNOVATION
Necessity is the Mother of Invention
Lewis.Tsurumaki.Lewiss notable café in New York, met a tight budget by using Cardboard in a creative way.
Similarly, when we were faced with a restaurant Owner who believed that their budget was only large for a warehouse design, we showed how changing the material palette and exposing elements of the structure could create a much more pleasing space for the same budget.
It is only a misconception that good design need be expensive.
DESIGN DIFFERENTIATION
Design should be considered a strategic tool in the market place. Your building should be like an Apple Computer, usually more expensive, but sought after because of their individual image.
DESIGN EQUITY - The direct value
The famous designer, Raymond Loewy, once said, 'There is no curve as beautiful as a rising sales graph!'
In Bilbao Spain, Architect Frank Gehrys Guggenheim spurned a new economic uplift for more than just the museum, but the town in general; this has been coined the Bilbao Effect. Gentrification on Steroids
We have seen time and time again how a fresh project can start a movement of gentrification.
